Ash Ketchum is a Janitor at the O.A.K. research facility in Kanto, California. One day, though, while heading to the boiler room he sees the scientists that work there conducting experiments on the animals to make them more powerful. It's all orchestrated by the administrator, Edward Mew II. He tries to leave, but is stopped by one of the animals, a gerbil that's been given the power to warp electricity. Ash has no choice but to incapacitate it and run to the nearest building, a gym and pool, where he seeks solace with his girlfriend, Misty, who is a life guard there. Together with her boss, Mitch Brock, they seek to get the gerbil to the federal government and report Mew II. They're stopped on their journey by a test robot, though, designated G4R-YMF O.A.K. Right when they're about to show it to Surge, an army general, a rocket is launched by a team in the O.A.K. base. The team who launched it, know as the "Rocket Team", are also the group who created G4R-Y. While trying to deal with this, the small electrical gerbil is stored in cryostasis, in a spherical object developed by the government. Years ago, they had commisioned Mew II's father, Edward Mew, to create a group of highly trained animal killing machines, expendable on the battlefield. However, Mew died before they had finished and the project was taken over by his son, Mew II, who decided to use them for his own personal gain. Towards the end, Ash, Surge, Brock, and Misty are trained to be a team of four elite fighters sent to infiltrate Mew II's mansion and find the access codes. When they get in, they find Mew II has infused himself with the chemical being used to turn animals into the monsters. After a fierce battle, the electical gerbil, who had broken out of its cryo ball and come to their aid, gave its life to destroy Mew II and his creation.
